East Berks Scrabble Club meets weekly to provide a mixture of friendly and competitive games of Scrabble, across a range of abilities from beginner to experienced.
We meet on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm, and play three games of Scrabble. We normally finish about 10:30pm, but you can come later or finish earlier and play just one or two games. There is no commitment to come every week. Tea or coffee and biscuits are available, and sometimes cake, too.
We normally play three games each night, broadly following the rules laid down by the World English Scrabble Players Association (WESPA). Our members span a broad range of abilities, so there is usually someone of the same ability to play against.
As well as friendly games, we also run three competitions throughout the year, a League, a Handicap, and an All-Play-All competition. Small prizes are awarded for these competitions, for the most improved player of each quarter, and for the most improved player of the year.
About a third of the members also take part individually in Scrabble tournaments which take place in other parts of the country, or abroad.
Our club website, www.eastberksscrabbleclub.org.uk, is regularly updated with results, club news, and quizzes.
All equipment – boards and word books – is provided. Informal tuition can be given to new players to help them improve. There is a small annual subscription, and a nominal weekly fee.
Your first three meetings are free: why not come along for a night on the tiles!
